The annual 10k Road Race starts and finishes in Wargrave Recreation Ground and follows a
counter-clockwise route out to the apex of Cockpole Green and back. Take a look at the course via our animated map.
The race begins on grass and, after a distance of about 300 metres, exits
the Recreation Ground via Recreation Road. Turning east in to Victoria Road it
then continues with a counter-clockwise loop of Highfield Park before
turning right in to Blakes Road. After another 700 metres the race turns right
in to Crazies Hill Road and, 225 metres later, in to Highfield Farm
Road.
The race continues on this road for 2.5 kilometres before turning left at the junction of Rose Lane and Warren Row Road. At the apex of Cockpole Green the run turns back on itself in to Hatch Gate Lane. Turning right, past The Horns public house, the route continues through Crazies Hill, on to Crazies Hill road, and back to Wargrave.
At the end of Crazies Hill Road the race bears left in to Blakes Road and, 700 metres later, right in to Victoria Road. After turning left in to Recreation Road the race enters the Recreation Ground for a final 350 metres on grass.
The course is best described as undulating; whilst not completely flat, it is also not severe, in the sense of having any long, arduous hills to negotiate. The elevation of the start and 3k points is pretty much the same, with gentle undulation en route between the two. The course climbs around 10 metres between 3 and 3.8k and drops in to a dip just after the 4k point. After a short, 50 metres or so, rise out of the dip the course continues, undulating very gently, through Cockpole Green and into Crazies Hill.
Just after 6k there is a short sharp drop, followed by a gentle rise to 6.9k. From here it is all downhill to Blakes Road along what we call 'the straight mile'. An incline takes you up Recreation Road back in to the Recreation Ground where the final 350 metres are dead flat.
